Minister Tkachenko does not know “how to fill the territory of the Lower Lavra with meaning” yet

Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko claimed on air on the TV-marathon Yedyni Novyny (“United News“) that after the return of all buildings of the Lower Lavra into the use of the state, various suggestions and projects concerning how to fill its territory with meaning would be considered. The Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church informs about it with reference to the news source Ukrinform.

As concerns the situation around the Kyiv Caves Lavra, Minister Tkachenko stated that the Ministry of Culture had a certain plan of actions, which everyone would see very soon.

“We have filed a lawsuit to the Kyiv Economic Court regarding the preclusion of the use of the state property, i.e. of the preserve (the National Historical and Cultural Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” – ed.). We have to get a decision of the court, then we will act in accordance with the law”, he said.

The Minister also once again called the Lavra “a museum object” and, in fact, admitted that he still did not know how to fill the territory of the Lower Lavra with meaning.

“After we return all the buildings on the territory of the Lower Lavra into the use of the state completely, we will consider various suggestions and projects concerning how to fill the territory of the Lower Lavra with meaning”, stated Tkachenko.

Earlier Minister Tkachenko, when speaking about the future fate of the great Orthodox shrine and the monks being expelled from the Kyiv Caves Lavra by his ministry, called the relics of Saints of the Kyiv Caves “museum exhibits”. Exactly like the atheistic Soviet authorities called them in the past.
