Today, we ask Venerable Agapitus for his prayers, that the Lord may give us the strength to fulfil our earthly duties and heal our spiritual and bodily afflictions. His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy said this in his sermon on the commemoration day of Saint Agapitus of the Kyiv Caves, the Information and Eucation Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports.
‘Yesterday, we enjoyed the memories of the mystery of the Ascension of the Lord, in which human nature was elevated to Heaven and seated at the right hand of the Heavenly God and Father. And today, we commemorate Venerable Agapitus, who partook of the salvation and who lived in the grace brought to earth by our Lord Jesus Christ’, said the Primate.
His Beatitude told the flock about the life and feats of Saint Agapitus, who became renowned for his gift of healing and was an unmercenary physician.
‘He did not want human fame, because he did everything for the sake of God. Not for his own honour and glory, but for God’, emphasised the Primate.
As the Archpastor noted, the saint healed both bodily and spiritual wounds of people.
‘Today, we ask the saint for his prayers, that the Lord may give us the strength to fulfil our earthly duties, those which God assigns to us, that we may have the strength to do good, that we may have the strength to love, forgive, that the Lord may preserve us from spiritual afflictions, that the Lord may repel from us fears, which a lot of people presently suffer from, that the Lord may heal our despair, which paralyses man’, said His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy.
He wished us to be cured of our spiritual and bodily sicknesses and to live on earth worthily — ‘to live in such a way that our earthly life may in due time turn into heavenly life and that we may reach eternal salvation in Heaven in Christ Jesus, our Lord.’
